Considering the current epidemiological situation, the low number of cases in Argentina, that it is usually a self-limited disease with low mortality, that the number of vaccine doses available worldwide is limited, that the data on efficacy, effectiveness and impact of vaccination are unknown and that from the sanitary point of view the conditions are not currently in place to establish a declaration of sanitary emergency that would enable the legal conditions for the purchase of vaccines, the National Immunization Commission does not recommend the purchase of smallpox vaccines for the time being. CoNaIn recommends emphasizing the communication of preventive measures in at-risk groups and maintaining epidemiological surveillance. In the event of changes in the epidemiological situation and in the conditions for acquiring the vaccine, its use would be recommended as proposed by the working group.
