NITAG recommendations

8 March 2024

March 8, 2024: The NITAG convened to analyze the national implementation of the dengue vaccine amidst increasing case reports in the region. Based on available evidence and the national epidemiological context, Uruguay does not meet the criteria for population-wide implementation as part of the response strategy to this arbovirus. This decision stems from the lack of evidence supporting its use in non-endemic outbreak settings and the necessity for high disease burden regions. Continuous monitoring of ongoing studies is proposed due to the dynamic epidemiological scenario. Additionally, reinforcing public messaging on environmental measures for vector control and reducing exposure risk, such as container removal and individual protective measures, is emphasized.
