NITAG recommendations

13 September 2023

Update of the recommendation on meningococcal vaccination in infants under 1 and adolescents: Maintain vaccination at 1 year of age and incorporate vaccination of adolescents (8th grade) with MenACWY conjugate vaccine. Add at 2 and 4 months of life the rMenB vaccine (2 + 1 scheme), considering that this group is the most affected by serogroup B infection, with booster in the second year of life. Later, the incorporation of a booster in the adolescent group should be considered. Maintain universal epidemiological surveillance with mandatory and immediate notification, to integrate clinical and laboratory data, and thus contribute to patient management. Optimize real-time surveillance by incorporating molecular biology methods such as PCR in routine diagnosis. Conduct surveillance of nasopharyngeal carriage in adolescents to know the vaccination impact. Generate data on the sequelae of IMD to monitor the cost-effectiveness of vaccines according to the epidemiological behavior. Preventing the acquisition of carriage through vaccination is key to reduce transmission, protect the entire population and optimize immunization programs.
